Obesity Rate Up In 31 States

WASHINGTON, DC — Adult obesity rates climbed even higher last year in 31 states, according to a report, “F as in Fat: How Obesity Policies Are Failing America, 2006.” The report was put together by Trust for America's Health, an organization working to make disease prevention a national priority. Mississippi was the heaviest state with an adult obesity rate of 29.5 percent. Colorado was the least heavy state with an adult obesity rate of 16.9 percent. Obesity rates remained the same in 18 states and Washington, DC. The South had nine of the 10 states with the highest obesity rates as well as the highest rates of diabetes and hypertension.
